Fat Grafting
A natural way of achieving volume augmentation in the face and neck is the use of a patient’s own fat cells. Fat cells are generally harvested from the lower abdomen, flanks or upper thighs and then prepared for injection using small syringes into the areas of the face where it is needed. In our experience, approximately 80% of patients will retain some or all of their transplanted fat resulting in long term augmentation. The fat cells also have some beneficial effects on the overlying skin that are not just related to the fact they are acting as a filler. The skin will often improve texture, color and appearance after fat grafting. This is not seen with other fillers. The procedure takes from 30-60 minutes and can be performed under sedation or general anesthesia.
Recovery
Most patients can return to light activity and work in one week and full activity in a few weeks.
